周桂笙:中国近代翻译史上的先驱者

Zhou Guisheng: A Pioneer in Chinese Modern Translation

研究者通常认为周桂笙是晚清较早翻译西洋文学,尤其擅长侦探小说译介的一位译者。事实上,周桂笙确可称之为"中国近代翻译史上的先驱者",他在翻译观念和文学作品接受方面都具有前瞻性。他在译界管理机制、言文一致的翻译策略以及域外文学接受三个方面所作出的努力,对西方文学的引入,作用不可小觑。

Researchers usually consider Zhou Guisheng as a translator who started early in translating the Western literature in the Late-Qing Dynasty, and who was especially talented in translating detective novels. Actually, he can be regaded as“A Pioneer in Chinese Modern Translation History”for his foresight in translation concepts and in the acceptance of foreign literature. He had made great efforts in the management mechanism of translation, the“Speaking Matching Writing”strategy of translation, and the acceptance of foreign literature. Thus, his contributions in bringing in the Western literature can never be underestimated.
