The Epitaph of Regui, the Late Prince of the Xi Ethnic Group in Hostage and the Right Weiwei Jiangjun (Awesome Guard General) of the Tang Dynasty unearthed at Xi'an in 2005 filled up the blank in the historic literatures about the princes of the Xi ethnic group in hostage to the Tang Dynasty, and has high historic values. The Xi ethnic group was living in the east of the Mongolian Plateau and had close relationships with Turks, Khitan and the Central Plains; in the historic literatures, the impacts and political and cultural communications between the Tang Dynasty and Xi ethnic group are frequently seen. Dispatching princes in hostage was an important method to maintain the relationship between the Tang court and the ethnic groups including Xi in the frontier zones.
