The Combinatory Mechanism of Resultative Compound Verbs

动结式述语和补语的概念组合可以为复合动词构式提供认知理据,赋予狭义和广义动结式统一的解释,并且揭示语境在组合中的作用。在狭义动结式中,补语编码述语常规和非常规结果时的组合分别借助了范畴化操作中的例示关系和延伸关系。补语百科语义引入的尺度概念构成了范畴化操作的语义基础。语境信息通过认知语法的技术手段也可以参与述语和补语的组合。广义动结式同样依赖于补语引入的尺度概念,使得补语可以修饰述语或述语动作的参与者,从而允准组合。

The conceptual combination of V1 and V2 in the resultative compounds provides cognitive motivations for the com- pound construction, gives a unified account of the Resultative Compound verbs in the Narrow sense （RCN） and the Resuha- tire Compound verbs in the Broad sense （ RCB）, and reveals the role of context in compounding. In RCN, the compounding draws from the categorization of instantiation and extension respectively when V2 codes the conventional and the unconventional resuh of V1. The scale introduced by the encyclopedic semantics of V2 constitutes the semantic basis of the categorization. The contextual information may participate, via the techniques in Cognitive Grammar, in the compounding of V1 and V2. RCB also hinges on the scale introduced by V2, which makes it possible for V2 to modify the event of V1 or its participant and thus licenses the compounding.
