Modest Proposal for English Ambiguity

歧义是人们在日常交际中常见的一种语言现象。歧义的产生是难以避免的,对歧义现象进行研究有助于对语言的理解。在英语表达中,英语歧义现象的构成类型包括语音歧义、词义歧义、结构歧义三个层面。英语歧义结构的存在妨碍人们的交流,消除英语歧义有以下四种方法:根据上下文语境,位置交换,补充省略成分,停顿。

Ambiguity is a usual language phenomenon which human beings often face with in their daily com -munication .Ambiguity can ’ t be avoided and the research on it plays a significant role in the comprehension of lan-guage .In English expressions , we found that the main causes of the occurrence of ambiguity which includes three aspects：Pronunciation , vocabulary and structure .English ambiguity hinders communication between human be-ings .Therefore , it is necessary to put forward the following four effective resolving methods on how to eliminate am -biguity：First, contextual disambiguation;second, shift;third, add ellipsis;fourth, pause.
