提高专业学生口语能力的途径探讨——以议会制英语辩论为中心

On the Effect of British Parliamentary Debate Training on Oral English for English Majors in China

摘要 21世纪全球化背景下,如何培养我国英语专业大学生的英语口头表达能力成为关注热点。英国议会制英语辩论独特的形式、内容以及评判标准对培养英语专业大学生的口语能力具有显著效果,能弥补传统课堂口语教学的不足,提高英语专业大学生口语表达的流畅度、逻辑性,同时提高学生对口语训练的兴趣。 Confronted with fierce competitions in the global arena, China has an increasing demand for English major graduates with high competence of spoken English. However, traditional teaching patterns in colleges in China are tests-orlented, with a focus on writing and reading skills rather than oral practice. It leads to a lack of talents with competence of spoken English. Through establishing an English Debate Society in Minnan Normal University and organizing a series of debate training activities, the author explores the effect of British Parliamentary (BP) debate training on improving students" spoken English. Through one to two years training, students participating in the BP debate training have made outstanding progress in their spoken English, featured by the improvement of fluency and logical thinking. In addition, they show stronger interest in the practice for spoken English, compared with their attitude before the training. Meanwhile, students from this English Debate Society won several prizes in national and regional debate competitions, demonstrating the results of BP debate training on their spoken English.
