Objective To discuss proper ways of first-aid treatment for college students. Method To select 166 college students of Beijing University of Technology and conduct a 32-hour training of them on the knowledge and skills on first-aid treatment. Questionnaires and tests were arranged for the students before and after the training, and their grasp of knowledge and skills on the first-aid treatment were anatyzed in comparison. Results Knowledge on first-aid treatment of the students mainly came from Internet (63 students, 26.69%), TV (56 students, 23.73%), school (54 students, 22.88%). A total number of 119 students (71.68%0) believed it necessary to have knowledge on first-aid treatment, and 66 students (39.76%) believed the primary reason for inadequate knowledge on first-aid treatment was that "the school failed to organize related activities". The students had a fairly good command of the theoretic things on first-aid treatment while fared generally poorly on the practical skills of the first-aid treatment. After receiving the specialized training combining theoretic instruction and practical skill, the test qualification rates of the students on both the theoretic knowledge and real practice of first-aid treatment improved markedly. Conclusion Training college students on firstaid treatment related knowledge and practice combining the theoretic and the practical aspects reaped sound results and is worth promoting at institutions of higher learning.
