油街实现空间的前身是香港皇家游艇会会址，而后在旁增建的政府物料供应处大楼。而供应处于上世纪90年代迁出时恰遇金融风暴。政府便将这些空置房屋以2．5港元每平方呎（呎即英尺，1平方呎约为0．1平方米）的低价出租，最初租期为半年。

OI! OCCUPIES THE former site of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, which was joined, briefly, by the Government Supplies Building. After financial turmoil forced suppliers to move out in the 1990s, the vacant buildings were offered for rent by the government at the low price of HKD 2.5 per square foot per month for initial leases of six months.
