This paper defines the concept of knowledge theory in library and information science.It analyzes the current problems in the knowledge theory research,including the lack of metatheoretical study,the absence of a unified theoretical framework and theories integration,the unformed knowledge theory system addressing the need of disciplinary development in digital context.It also discusses the academic values and implications of knowledge theory from the perspectives of interdisciplinary feature of LIS,integration of branch theories,broadening and normalizing of information practice,and the harmonious development of physical space and information space.
