人文社会科学类硕士学位论文英语标题句法特征的对比研究

English Titles of MA Thesis in Humanities and Social Sciences:A Contrastive Study of Syntactic Structure

学术性论文标题的结构特征在专门用途英语领域的研究可谓方兴未艾。通过自建包含1 000个标题的小型语料库,对比研究了中国和北美两个文化语境下文科类硕士论文英语标题的句法结构。结果表明:中国人文社科类硕士学位论文标题在句法结构及其长度方面与北美语境中的标题存在显著差异;中国人文社会科学类硕士学位论文英语标题句法特征极其单一,九成以上都是名词短语标题。研究结果为我国的专门用途英语教学和中国英语研究提供借鉴。

This paper explores the syntactic structure of Master thesis titles in humanities and social sciences across cultural contexts of North America and China. A corpus of 1 000 titles is built to analyze the title structure and title length. The results show a striking difference between titles across cultural contexts and disciplines. The paper would shed light on the ESP teaching and China English.
