Large amount of new words and meanings in ＂The Old History of Five Dynasties＂ offers good vo- cabulary data for studying languages of The late Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasties. They also reflects the new look of Chinese vocabulary development. Based on ＂ The Great Chinese Dictionary＂ , we select some words to discuss the vocabulary data value of this book in the study of Chinese language history. The discovery of new words and meanings in ＂The Old History of Five Dynasties＂ plays a part in studying Chinese vocabulary history and compiling and amending dictionary.
