Thunder God in "Successive Stories of Leveling Bullies and News in Lakes and Seas"

《湖海新闻夷坚续志》是一部记录宋元时期民间故事的古代志怪小说集,其中体现出雷神的世俗职能,如对不忠之臣、不孝之子、渎神之人、秽语之妇、奸盗之人的惩罚,甚至参与民间分田之事,可知雷神在当时的民间文化中发挥了道德教化与劝善惩恶的作用。

＂Successive Stories of Leveling Bullies and News in lakes and seas＂ records the folk tales in Song and Yuan Dynasties but its author is unknown. It records many folk tales which are closely related to the Thunder God, reflecting the Thunder God worship and faith at that time. The Thunder God played very important role in punishing the disloyalty, undutiful and wicked men, and in mainte- nance of feudal ethical morality and justice. This paper interprets the Thunder God stories in ＂ Successive Stories of Leveling Bullies and News in Lakes and Seas＂ mainly from the following three aspects ：its image in the literature, its secular functions and the faith and worship toward it,
