Positive mental health education attaches importance to cultivating positive mental characters. The Guidance Outline for Mental Health Education in Primary and Secondary Schools, revised in 2012 by the Ministry of Education of the PRC, laid emphasis on "cultivating positive mental characters." Consequently, defending and measuring positive mental characters scientifically becomes an urgent topic of the times. Based on the Positive Mental Characters Scale for Chinese Primary and Secondary School Students, developed by our research team in 2009, the present research specially focuses on the development of a measuring tool for primary school students' positive mental characters, exploring the structure of positive mental characters so as to make mental health education more scientific and more effective for primary school students. Through an analysis of the valid data from 5600 primary school students, the research team developed the Positive Mental Characters Scale for Chinese Primary Schoo/s. It consists of 6 sub - scales, 13 positive mental characters, and 50 survey questions. Statistical testing shows that the scale has good stability and validity, and can be used to test Chinese primary school students on a large scale.
