提起印尼棉兰的华人,人们马上会说这里福建人很富有,很能干,经商成功。其实,最早来到此地并为这里的开发立下汗马功劳的应该是客家人,印尼棉兰开埠功臣是梅县人张榕轩,在印尼棉兰的发展史上写下了光辉的一页,我们有理由为客家人祖先在棉兰曾经创造的辉煌而感到自豪。此外,以海陆丰客家人为主体的日里各大小烟草种植园工人,曾经为当年日里的经济发展流血、流汗,他们的功绩不可抹杀。

When it comes to the Chinese in Medan,people will soon mention the Chinese from Fujian province,because they are affluent,efficient and successful in business. However,the Hakkas were the first group of people came to Medan and made a huge contribution to the development of Medan. Moreover,the contributor of port in Medan was opened by Zhang Rongxuan,who came from County Mei. His donation left a splendid page in the history of Medan. And the ancestors of the Hakkas in Medan are qualified enough for us to be proud and respectful,for the magnificent performance they once achieved. What＇s more,the Hakka workers came from Hailufeng who once worked hard in tobacco plantation once contributed too much to the development of Rili＇s economy,and their contribution cannot be forgotten.
