As the respective masterpieces of contemporary writers Gloria Naylor and Toni Morrison, Linden Hills and Paradise demonstrate two significant practices of African American People's search for utopia the establishment of the middle-class neighborhood Linden Hills and the black town Ruby, both of which end up with failure, but with promise. The main line corresponds to the archetypal theme of paradise, paradise lost and redemption, indicating Naylor and Morrison's similarity and consistency in creative thoughts, and displaying their general concern for the black people and their strong sensibility for their nation as well.
