摘要 著名语言学家M.A.K.Halliday创立的系统功能语言学(SFL),作为一门适用语言学,已经成为诸多语言学前沿学科的重要组成部分或理论基础,但是作为该理论建构的思想基础——他的语言发展理论在国内却少有引介和述评。而我们认为他的语言发展理论对我国的应用语言学研究,尤其是外语学习研究更有启示意义。因此本文根据相关文献,解读Halliday语言发展理论的内涵外延,重点讨论意义、思维与学习的关系,旨在说明他的语言发展观不仅为SFL提供了坚实的理论基础,而且对我国二语习得研究与实践具有重要的启示意义。 M.A.K. Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics(SFL), as an Appliable Linguistics, has either developed into an important component of many newly developed theories in linguistics or established an essential theoretical foundation for them. However, his language development theory, on which SFL is based ideologically, is insufficiently introduced and commented in China, and we believe that this theory has signifi cant implications for the research of applied linguistics in China, especially to the study of foreign language learning. Therefore, based on the relevant research literature this paper interprets and discusses both the core and the extending concepts in Halliday’s language development theory with an emphasis on the relations among meaning, thinking and learning, and to argue that his language development theory does not only provide a solid theoretical basis for SFL, but also provides important implications for the research in applied linguistics and foreign language learning in China.
