Studies on the Boxer Movement in the People's Republic of China

义和团运动作为中国近代史上一场反帝爱国运动和最后一场传统意义上的农民运动,自新中国成立以来一直受到国内学界的重视。回顾六十余年来的国内义和团运动史研究,大致经历了一个由单纯政治事件史向社会史和文化史研究的转变过程,并取得丰硕成果。但鉴于义和团运动作为中国近代一场反帝爱国运动,它本质上也是一场比较奇特的中外战争,加强对义和团运动时期列强方面的研究和中外关系史的研究,既是国内义和团运动史研究中的一个难点,同时也是一个突破点。国内的义和团运动史研究在进行社会史、文化史和思想史的拓展之后,有必要重新回归政治事件史的研究。

The Boxer Movement,an anti-imperialist movement and the last peasant movement in traditional sense in the history of modern China,has been one of focuses in late Qing history since the foundation of the People＇s Republic of China.During these 60 years,the Boxer Movement studies have achieved fruitful results and gone through a transformation process from a purely political event history research to the study of social and cultural history.As an anti-imperialist movement in modern China,the Boxer Movement is essentially an unusual war between China and foreign powers.Therefore it will be a difficulty as well as a major breakthrough in the Boxer Movement studies to strengthen researches on foreign powers and sino-foreign relations.Furthermore,it is necessary to return from the approach of social and cultural history to the approach of political history.
