从《左传》英译看译者主体性

On the Subjectivity of Translators——A case study on the two english translations of Zuo Zhuan

译文是译者思想的体现。鉴于《左传》的叙事性,从叙事学角度解析理雅各和华兹生所译的两部《左传》英译本,可从中窥见译者对文本的干预,从而深化对译者主体性的认识。这两位译者通过控制注解,重组叙事材料,选择叙事风格等手段实现对文本的干预。而这些干预手段的运用体现了译者的能动性、为我性和受动性。

A translation is the embodiment of the thinking of its translator.Given the narrative features of Zuo Zhuan,analyses of its translations composed by James Legge and Burton Watson respectively from the perspective of narratology help to reveal intervention of the translators,and hence deepen the understanding of the subjectivity of translators.The two translators intervene through the control of annotations,the rearrangement of narrative material and the choice of different narrative styles,which reflect the creativity,skopos and restrictions of the translators.
