This paper focuses on four English women writers and their China narratives. By analyzing the four different ways they write China, this paper shows that China has been shown as the "beautiful Orient" and "evil Orient". Thus the women writers' China narrative forms a differentiating part of the Orientalist discourse in the West by both challenging and reinforcing the masculine tradition. Meanwhile, white women writers have constructed their identity by imagining China as the Other.
