摘要
语言哲学向心智哲学的转向过程中,塞尔和乔姆斯基的影响不容忽视。塞尔创立了心智哲学,乔姆斯基倡导内在语言观。在语言的哲学思考上,两者同时关注了语言和心智的密切关系。对塞尔和乔姆斯基而言,只有承认心智和语言现象的本体论地位,抛弃传统二元论,摈弃还原论的思想,采取自然主义的研究方法才能解密语言和心智。在具体研究路径和目标上,二者也存在差异。塞尔主要从哲学层面考察心智现象,关注语言与意义、语言与社会的关系,主张形而上的分析路径;乔姆斯基则维护语言官能的独立性,认为思维与语言同构,语言是心智的一部分,侧重研究语言的句法运算机制。
Searle＇ s Mentalism and Chomsky＇ s Generative Grammar play equally significant roles in the linguistic-to-men- tal/st turn in modern philosophy. Attaching importance to human mind in language study, they both insist on the ontological status of language and mind. By adopting methodological naturalism, they successfully dissolve the traditional mind - body paradox and dualism, making possible the unification between natural science and language and mind study. Their major difference lies in that Searle, as a philosopher, emphasizes the study of meaning and highlights the social reality in relation with language whereas Chomsky, as a linguist, focuses on the study of generative grammar and suspends the consideration of meaning and social factors.
