The Julfar Port Sites scattered for about 4 km along the seashore to the north of Ras al-Khaimah City, the capital of the Emirate of Ras al-Khaimah, UAE, mainly include the sites of al-Nudud, al- Mataf and al-Darbahaniyah. In February through April 2010, the joint archaeological team organized by the Ras al-Khaimah municipal government and British archaeologists conducted a rescue excavation to the al-Nudud Port Site and sorted and made origin analysis to the 250 pieces of shards of Chinese porcelains (the shards of the large-sized vessels used as shipping containers were excluded) unearthed from the site. These shards were mainly that of celadon and blue-and-white porcelain and the types were mainly bowls and plates, the dates of which were from the mid Southern Song through the late Ming Dynasties. The shards of Chinese porcelains unearthed from the al-Nudud Port Site are significantly meaningful for the understanding to the importing and consuming of the ceramics from the Far East in the circum-western Indian Ocean area.
