On the Problems of the Early Stage Study of Modernization in China

十九、二十世纪之交随着中国新史学的出现,中国的史学研究开始立足于现世,史学研究开始"现代化"的研究尝试。但早期的现代化研究明显受到清末"中体西用"思想的影响,这种影响也使得在研究过程中对"西化"和"近代化"、"现代化"这些概念的模糊和混淆,甚至是不同概念的误用。随着学者们对现代化研究的日益深入,在概念上的问题有所减少,但仍然存在不足。

At the end of nineteenth century and the beginning of twentieth century, with the emergence of China＇s new historiography, Chinese historians began the research on＂modernization＂. But the early stage studies of＂modernization＂were obviously influenced by the thoughts of＂Confucianism as the basis and western learning as measures＂in the late Qing dynasty, which made the researchers feel confused about the concepts such as＂Westernization＂and＂moderniza-tion＂. With the increasingly deepening in the research of＂modernization＂, the problems of concept confusions are re-duced, however, there are still shortcomings.
