古诗英译之描写性翻译研究——以许渊冲英译《无题》为例

A Descriptive Study on the Translation of Classical Chinese Poetry into English——Taking Xu Yuanchong's Translation of the Tang poem “Wuti” as an example

本文以图里的翻译规范理论为观照,以许渊冲的英译唐诗《无题》为研究案例,力图重构译诗的翻译策略和翻译规范,探索古诗英译的描写性研究途径。文章认为,描写性研究途径纳入了对翻译过程中文化层面的考察,重视对翻译的文本、过程及功能进行全面客观的评价,有利于加强古诗英译领域的研究深度和广度。

Enlightened by Toury’s theory on translational norms, this paper makes a case study on the poem “Wuti” translated by Xu Yuanchong, trying to reconstruct the strategies and norms embedded in the translation, hence exploring the descriptive approach to the translation study of classical Chinese poetry. It is concluded that by integrating cultural aspects to the translation study and evaluating the text, process and function of translation more objectively, the descriptive approach could deepen and validate the research on English translations of classical Chinese poems in a good sense.
