Shanghai fern von wo is a novel of the German writer Ursula Krechel, who has won the German Book Prize in 2012. Thebook describes the living situation of the 18 000 Jewish refugees in the Nazi period in Shanghai and has been widely praised by critics.The mix of facts and fiction, the delicate language and the fragmentary memories, all these reproduce the hardship and bitterness ofthe life in exile. All kinds of the exiles experienced various identity crisis. This article tries to explore the identity problems of theJewish refugees in Shanghai with the help of identity theory from three aspects： the loss of identity, search for identity and the identityreconstruction.
