Fohui Hill (The Buddha's Wisdom Hill) is seated southeast of the Thousand-Buddha Mountain, It gotthe name of "the hill of grand Buddha" since a giant figure of the Buddha had been carved there. It was named "the Wedge Hill" or "the Chinese Brush Peak" during the reign of the Ming Emperor Wanli, because the Magistrate of Jinan Ping Kangyu built some huge stone pillars on the hill, which were standing on end, like a cross between a wedge and a pen. The huge stone pillars were erected because of the ancients' superstition, as they thought the geography of Jinan was like a boat floating on the water so that it must be chained to stone stakes in case of drifting away.
