摘要
牙周炎是人类最常见的慢性感染性疾病，它影响了几乎一半的英国成年人和超过60％的65岁以上老年人。它是一个重要的公众健康问题，引起牙齿的缺失、功能缺如、咀嚼功能障碍及营养不良等。牙周炎还会影响发音，降低生活质量，更是一个逐步增加的医疗经济负担。
