从20世纪初开始，中国人逐步开眼看世界，西方文化涌入中国，在纷繁的涌入大潮中莎剧可谓是涤荡中国戏剧文化的惊涛骇浪，莎剧的精彩影响了近代中国不少戏剧家。在改革开放后，中国进行了将莎剧与中国戏曲结合起来表演的探索，在这个融合的过程中使我们看到了一些突出的特色，这些特色值得我们深入的研究也可以为将来的中外文化交流提供一些成功的借鉴。
