社会的进步和发展给新闻出版业带了机遇，同时也伴随着挑战。2011年颁布的《新闻出版业“十二五”时期发展规划》为新闻出版业的发展定下了基调，指明了发展方向，也为编辑提出了更高的要求。新时期的新闻出版编辑需要具备在政治、文化、知识、审美、语言、道德、社会责任感和历史使命感等方面的素养，才能更好地服务于社会主义文化建设。
The social progress and development has been bringing opportunities as well as challenges. The 12th Five -year Plan of Publishers ordain in 2011 sets the tone for the development of Publishers, points out the development direction and also put forward higher requirements for editors. It is necessary of editors of the new period to have the basic qualities in terms of politics, culture, knowledge, aesthetics, language, morality, social responsibility and sense of historical mission, and so on. Armed with these qualities, editors can serve the construction of socialist culture better.
