大房子作为一种特殊的文化符号在叶芝诗作中以及在爱尔兰现当代文学发展中具有支点作用。叶芝将英-爱优势阶层身份认同、英-爱异质文化建构、英-爱男性气质彰显以及与之相关的爱尔兰社会政治运动与历史进程纳入大房子诗歌空间表征的框架之中,极大地拓展和深化了大房子所象征的界限意义,同时又深刻展现出诗人及其族群的一种没落的贵族式高傲。在叶芝笔下,大房子是体现现代爱尔兰秩序与传统的最根本性的象征意象,其空间表征成为英国支配性传统与爱尔兰民族自主创新的张力性关联中的连接点。
The Big House,as a special cultural symbol,plays a pivotal role in Yeats' s poetry and in Irish modern and contemporary literature. Yeats probes into the identity of the Anglo-Irish Ascendency,the construction of the Anglo-Irish alienated culture,the Anglo-Irish masculinity in the spatial representation of the Big House,in which the social,political and historical development in Ireland is unveiled. The spatial representation of the Big House widens the meaning of the dividing line,reflects the declining aristocratic pride,proves to be the symbol of Irish order and tradition,and has become the connecting point to bridge British dominant conventions and Irish creativity.
