How do unnecessary modifiers and redundant expressions appear in translation between English and Chinese? Why is it that the errors and mistakes made by Chinese students in English or in Chinese are almost identical? Does the phenomenon have anything to do with the students' Chinese background? If what German philosopher Fritz Mauthner had said was true that"If Aristotle had spoken Chinese or Dakota, his logic and his categories would have been different",then how great influence of Chinese background is on Chinese students' cognition of English? This paper tries to probe into these problems.
