Gender-related translation theories and practice research both at home and abroad is mostly confined to a stereotypical feminism perspective, namely hypothesizing and confirming male and female translators' different representations of gender issues, or highlighting feminist translators' identity and subjectivity. Although it often reflects reality, researchers are all descriptively oriented, and new methodologies are under-researched. The present case analysis about a word used in different contexts bearing different connotations indicates potential for research from gender perspective: exploring how contextual gender-related parameters function in relational-ontological meaning-generating mechanism and how historically socio-cultural factors help construct and restrict meaning generation. Therefore, feminism and gender are two related but different concepts, and researchers should avoid a stereotypical way of thinking in translation studies and focus on a multi-dimensional exploration from gender perspective, including specifying context and innovating methodology, so as to reveal the nature and laws of translating practice.
