指出两个特别有趣和急迫的技术哲学思考方向:一个关乎信息技术尤其是互联网所展现出来的社会政治含义;另一个关乎人类社会赖以存续的物质基础——能源危机和气候模式的变化。就前者而言,必须防范日益扩展的信息技术系统对人类自由的潜在威胁,哲学家们应该积极更新他们关于网络社会之政治属性及其蕴含的公众生活质量的思辨与论断;就后者而言,能源危机和气候崩溃很可能会造成人类最基本的物质基础及社会、文化和政治模式的长久破坏。因此,在未来的几十年里,技术哲学必须以某种方式应对我们现在还毫无准备的各种极端的、终究是物质性的断裂,必须再一次开始"思所不可思者"。
The future of the philosophy of technology on Earth is clouded by emerging realities that states-men, citizens and scholars find all but impossible to confront. Included among the embarrassing issues is the fact that modern technological civilization rests upon a one time only bubble of cheap fossil fuels that is now running dry and for which there are no adequate alternatives. Another troubling problem is that of an already urgent global climate crash due to uncontrolled emissions of CO2 gas that world societies steadfastly refuse to curtail. Problems of this kind raise the question:Upon which planet will the philosophy of technology flourish?
