Cambodia, though rich in forest resources, remains one ot me poorest country in the world with many impoverished indigenous people living in the forests, such as those living in Central Cardamom Protected Forest (CCPF). Before the establishment of CCPF, the indigenous people managed to live in harmony with nature due to their comparatively independent rights to such issues as autonomy, land-use, environment and culture. However, after the establishment since March, 2002, such rights were badly reduced under pressures mainly from the government, NGOs, and migrants from outside. Besides, the traditional belief system of indigenous people also exerts some influences, which were both positive and negative. To study these influences will be significant for researchers to make an in-depth analysis on the indigenous people and the sustainable development in the area.
