Cooper's masterpiece"The Leatherstocking Tales"de-scribes the different actions of the white pioneers, the European colonists, the American Indians and the Leatherstocking Natty Bumppo in the nature, full of reflections on the relationship be-tween man and nature. Analyzing the relationship between man and nature in "The Leatherstocking Tales" from the perspective of ecocriticism, this paper exhibits both the conflict and the har-mony between man and nature, and meanwhile reveals Cooper's ecological thoughts of opposing to anthropocentrism, appealing for respect and protection of nature, and seeking man's harmony with nature.
