Cooper＇s masterpiece＂The Leatherstocking Tales＂de-scribes the different actions of the white pioneers, the European colonists, the American Indians and the Leatherstocking Natty Bumppo in the nature, full of reflections on the relationship be-tween man and nature. Analyzing the relationship between man and nature in ＂The Leatherstocking Tales＂ from the perspective of ecocriticism, this paper exhibits both the conflict and the har-mony between man and nature, and meanwhile reveals Cooper＇s ecological thoughts of opposing to anthropocentrism, appealing for respect and protection of nature, and seeking man＇s harmony with nature.
