马尔库塞在《单向度的人》一书中将发达工业社会下人被技术理性异化后产生的单面人的社会状况展现得淋漓尽致。发达工业社会背景下人的困惑与困境表现在人盲目地被技术异化和物化,人们顺从的心态远远超过了应该具有的否定的、批判的、超越的、反对的心声,人们在被异化的过程中得到了虚假的泡沫满足,社会的政治经济文化层面也同样地满足于这种虚假的泡沫幸福度中。而马尔库塞犀利地指出了这种隐性的极权主义制度下的广大民众应该重新塑造否定性思想,学会批判地分析问题。同时,他也提出了解决方案就是建立创造性思维,也就是新的审美维度,通过建构它让技术化社会下的人们完成从单维人向多维人的转变,从而成为一个自由全面发展的完整的人。
