Histone acetyltransferases (HATs) and histone deacetylases (HDACs) modify the expression of inflammation genes by regulating chromatin structure. Further more, they can also play an important role in disease development through modifing nonhistone proteins. In lung diseases, the balance between HATs and HDACs in gene levels and related regulators are associated with COPD,lung cancer, asthma, and corticosteroid resistance. These findings may provide theoretical basics for further development of HDACs targeting drugs in the treatment of lung diseases.
