摘要 继1978年出版后,《美国哀诉》在2012年推出纪念版,萨克凡·伯克维奇还专门为新版写了新序。《美国哀诉》主要探寻的是新英格兰的清教哀诉布道辞令及其作为一种社会凝聚力的礼仪模式的作用。本文综述了伯克维奇对清教哀诉与"美国"的象征的阐释,分析了其意识形态研究方法,探讨了该书对文化研究、辞令研究、文学研究的贡献,并肯定该书不仅具有时代意义而且还是认识研究美国文学文化的一本必读经典。 After its publication in 1978, The American Jer- emiad had a 2012 anniversary edition, with an incisive, penetrating new preface by the author Sacvan Bercovitch. This seminal book explores the rhetoric of New England Puritan jeremiad and its function as a ritual of social cohe- sion. While reviewing and analyzing Bercovitch＇s highly enlightening insights and approach of ideological reading, this article also illustrates Bercovitch＇s contributions to the studies in American culture, literature, rhetoric and Ameri- can studies as well as the book＇s compelling significance in the 21st century as one of the classic books for Ameri- can culture and literature studies.
