A Contrastive Analysis of Really,Actually,Truly and Genuinely——A Corpus-Based Study of Near-Synonymous Adverbs

以语料库为工具对really、actually、truly和genuinely这组近义词进行研究,对比其语体分布差异,描述左搭配词中呈现的每个词在用法方面的特征及其含义,分析右搭配词中动词的分类情况以及从右搭配的形容词来判断各个副词的语义韵等。通过这种研究手段,再配合词典辨析近义词,就能更加清晰全面地注意到该组词汇间的细微差异。

The present thesis is a corpus-based study of a group of near-synonyms：really,actually,truly and genu-inely.The style difference among these words is analyzed.The characteristic of usage and meaning of the words,which can be presented by their left collocates,are described.The category of the verbal collocates on the right isdiscussed and the semantic prosodies of the adverbs are judged based on the adjective collocates on the right.Thiskind of study overcomes the disadvantage of vagueness and one-sidedness in analysis of near-synonyms by usingdictionary,and therefor can focus on the subtl difference.
