"The other",as a philosophical concept,is a synonym of "the object","the insignificant"and "the subordinate. "As a word precisely summed up the social position of females in history,it becomes the conceptual basis of Simon De Beauvoir's seminal The Second Sex. The Awakening and Pisces, representative works of world female literature, expose respectively the otherness of women in the past and present. Despite their superficial differences in presentation, their inherent similarity and historical successiveness are not denied. The promotion of sexual equality is in no way deniable when human society advances. However,a thorough textual analysis with supportive sociological statistics shows that women's otherness takes on recessive form, and women's struggle for equality demonstrates new complicacy.
