明代最有影响的文言剑侠小说辑本是《剑侠传》。《剑侠传》所选篇目较为优秀,内容独特,类型单一,说明编辑者对"剑侠"有明确的认识,有统一的选编标准。《剑侠传》版本较多,明刊四卷本是较为完善和有影响的版本。学界一般认为《剑侠传》编辑者是王世贞,但仔细分析、综合考量,这一说法还不能成为定论。《剑侠传》的问世,对中国古代小说的发展与分类研究起到了一定的作用,在小说史上具有重要意义。

Swordsman knight-errant biography is the most influential classical swordman knight-errant fiction series in Ming Dynasty,the articles of which are of high quality with distinctive content and same style,indicating that the editor had a clear understanding of the concept'swordsman knighterrant'and a unified compiling standard. Among quite a few editions of Swordsman Knight-errant biography,the version of the four volumes which were published in Ming Dynasty is a more complete and influential one. It is generally believed in the academic field that the editor is Wang Shizhen,but this view still can't be conclusive if it is thoroughly analyzed and comprehensively considered. The publication of Swordsman Knight-errant biography did play a role in the development and classification of Chinese ancient novels and was of great significance in the history of fictions.
