Dreaming in Cuban, written by Cuban-American novelist Cristina Garcia, is a classic in Latino-American litera- ture. Through relating a quintessential tragedy of familial diaspora and loss of belonging in a common Cuban family, the novel reveals the underlying national circumstance and the cultural trauma which the Cubans have been going through after Cuban Revolution. In the novel, Garcia exposes the political causes of the cuhural trauma, profoundly depicts the various manifesta- tions of the cultural trauma and meanwhile expresses her urgent appeal for cultural reconciliation in bridging family and na- tional gap, curing national cultural trauma and recreating group identities.
