From Culture Distortion to Culture Facsimile The Harmonious C-E Translation of Chinese Culture-loaded Words in China's External Report in the New Century

在当今全球化语境下,外宣报道中汉语文化负载词的翻译受到学者们的广泛关注。汉语文化负载词最能体现中华文化特色,但其本身所承载的丰富文化内涵往往在翻译过程中失真,未能达到预期的宣传目的。实例分析外宣报道中汉语文化负载词的和谐翻译思路,丰富译语文化,传播中国传统文化,促进世界多元文化的和谐共存。

In the context of globalization, Chinese culture-loaded words and their translation in external propaganda texts are widely studied by scholars. Chinese culture-loaded words can best embody Chinese traditional culture, but their cultural connotations are usually distorted after translation, thus failing to achieve its intended purpose. On the basis of a detailed analysis of some telling examples, this article concludes that a harmonious translation strategy is adopted for translating Chinese culture -loaded words in the external propaganda texts against a background of China’s peaceful rise and points out this helps spread authentic traditional Chinese culture to the outside world, enrich that of the target language and promote the harmonious coexistence of diverse cultures as well.
