出生习俗是民族文化中一个重要组成部分,透过一个民族的习俗,能够了解该民族在不同时代的生活愿望、信仰观念等。泰国泰族传统出生习俗体现了生育文化观念:鬼神观、巫术观和"轮回转世"观;也反映出生育禁忌文化心理:对神、灵、鬼的敬畏心理、趋吉避凶心理和主观联想心理。这一传统习俗起到了丰富民间文化的作用。

Traditional birth custom is the integral part of culture. It not only imparts certain culture from generation to gener- ation but also implies certain group of people＇s beliefs and life patterns in different times. It implies that Thai people＇s notions of birth culture such as belief in ghosts, spells or belief in life circulation. It also reflects Thai people＇s psychos in daily life, such as an awesome feeling to ghosts or spirits, psychos in following the luckiness and a subjective self-imaginary. With the develop- ment of the society, economy and popularizing, this custom may be simplified or disappear. But it plays a very important role in Thai traditional culture, and is irreplaceable.
