The identity shifts of Wales Prince Madoc in Madoc are one important factor of reflecting Southey's imperial and colonial ideology. The processes of identity shifting from a stranger in America, then to a chief of his tribe and finally the sole lord are consistent with his actions of landing on America, conquering and securing land, adopting violent forces and cultural assimilation tactics and resorting to colonial reign. Through the analysis of the narration of identity shifts, Southey's imperial and colonial ideology hidden in Pantocracy is reflected in the sense of superiority, territorial expansion, colonial rule following violent conquering and cultural assimilation.
