Absorption and Alienation:Quanzhen Taoism's Attitudinal Transformation of the Mt.Taishan Nether World Belief

泰山自古就有浓厚的阴司信仰传统。金元时期,泰山阴司信仰以蒿里山神祠为中心;明清之际,除了蒿里山神祠外,出现了泰山阴司信仰的新形态——总司大帝信仰。以全真道与泰山地区民众的信仰生活为切入点,描述并分析全真道与泰山阴司信仰互动的过程和模式,从而展示全真道在社会面向上的多层次性。

There were strong nether world belief traditions in Taishan since ancient times. During Jin and Yuan Dynasties, the nether world belief of Taishan took Haoli Shan God Temple as the center. However, by the period of Ming and Qing Dynasties, there appeared a new form of nether world belief of Taishan Zongsi Emperor. This paper takes Quanzhen Taoism and the belief lives of the folks around Taishan area as the starting point, describes and analyzes the process and mode of the interaction between Quanzhen Taoism and the nether world belief of Taishan, then illustrates the multilevel of Quanzhen Taoism on social directions.
