On the Discourse System of Lin Shu's Translated Novels

晚清时期,林纾的小说翻译影响之大可谓空前。大量的小说翻译实践使林纾形成了特色鲜明、自成一体的翻译小说话语系统。当然,林译小说的话语系统不是单一的话语形式,而是一种多维的"话语"形式,其中林纾的序跋话语、译本书名话语和译文文本话语极富特色,是构成其话语系统的主要元素。

In the late Qing Dynasty, the influence caused by Lin Shu＇s translation of Western novels was so great that it can be termed as ＂unprecedented＂. The large amount of translating practice enabled Lin Shu, either conscientiously or uneonscientiously, to form a particular discourse system of his translated novels characterized by distinctiveness and a style of his own. Of course, the discourse system of Lin Shu＇s translated novels is not a single form of discourse but a multidimensional form of discourse, of which Lin Shu＇s discourse of prefaces and postscripts, the title discourses and the text discourses of the translated novels are extremely rich in characteristics. The three forms of discourses are the main elements to constitute the discourse system of Lin Shu＇s translated novels.
