On Lexical Cohesion and Coherence in Charlotte's Web

衔接是把句子组成语篇的主要手段,研究衔接手段是语篇分析不可忽视的重要内容。作为五种衔接手段之一的词汇衔接,它表达了一种具体且复杂的意义关系,并在语篇连贯中起着连接的作用。以Halliday和Hasan的衔接理论为基础,结合语言实例,分析词汇衔接机制在《夏洛特的网》中的运用,从而说明词汇衔接手段在语篇连贯构建中的重要功能。可以从衔接角度来研究语篇连贯,也可以通过语篇中的衔接机制来预测语篇的连贯性。

As one of the primary means of organizing sentences into texts,cohesive devices have been one of the major concerns of discourse analysis. Among the five types of cohesive devices, lexical cohesion demonstrates concrete and sophisticated semantic relationships and creates cohesive force in a text.Based on the Cohesion theory of Halliday and Hasan, the present article aims to explore the lexical patterns in Charlotte’s Web,investigate coherence in terms of cohesion.The article holds text coherence and the degree of coherence can be predicted according to cohesive devices present in the text.
