Confucianism: "Go to the Countryside"

长期以来,儒学以刻板、陈腐的印象,让人产生一种陌生遥远的距离感。然而近几年来山东各地举办的＂乡村儒学讲堂＂、＂孔子学堂＂、＂百姓儒学＂等一系列活动,在儒学的普及、传播、推广、应用上进行创新和突破,将儒学思想生活化、大众化,让儒学走进普通人的生活中。

The word Confucianism leaves people with a rigid and stale impression,towards which people tend to feel strange and distant.In the past two years,however,various places in Shandong province have applied innovation and breakthroughs in the popularization,dissemination,promotion and application of Confucianism,making Confucian thoughts close to life and popular,and introducing Confucianism into the lives of ordinary people.At 9 a.m.on July 11,the 'Village Confucian Classroom' in Shengshuiyu(Holy Water Valley) town,Sishui county,Jining City opened.Yan Binggang,Vice Dean of the Institute for Advanced Study of Confucianism,Shandong University was invited to talk about family education.This is a lesson about filial piety in the 'Village Confucian Classroom'. 'Lecturing to farmers is far more difficult than to graduate students,' said Zhao Fasheng,from Nishan Shengyuan Academy. 'Our teaching adopts story-telling and lifelike approaches to help the farmers know about and study Confucianism.' Qufu launched this 'People's Confucianism' project,and set up10 villages as test sites.In the class,Confucianism teachers taught villagers themes such as filial piety and neighborhood harmony using easy-to-understand teaching methods so that they could easily learn about the Confucian classics.
