古代尺牍的巅峰出现在宋代,其特点是应用功能弱化,文学功能得到全面发挥。思想内容上向正统文学靠拢,言之有物,承担社会教化责任;艺术上全面自觉,出现了大批形神兼佳的艺术短简,充分发挥了尺牍的文学功能。尺牍开始单行出版、录入文集,正式进入文学传播领域。宋人使古老的尺牍焕发了新的生机,有了很高的历史文化价值。

Chi Du, a kind of short correspondence message had developed to its peak in the Song Dynas- ty, featured with the decline of its practical function and the fully demonstrating of its literariness. It drew close to the orthodox literature in contents, having substance in speech, taking the responsibility of social edu- genre with new vitality as well as high historical and cultural values.
