中国与北美硕士论文英语标题的对比研究——以农学为例

A Contrastive Study on English Master Thesis Titles in Agriculture

文章以北美语料为参照探讨了中国农学学科的硕士论文英语标题的类型和长度,建立了一个包含800个中国和北美农学英语硕士论文标题的小型语料库,并进一步将所有语料按形式结构分为5类。结果表明:中国农学硕士论文英语标题在标题的总体长度,标题类型的分布,以及标题在各次级学科中的形式特征都与北美语料有着差异。在此基础上,文章进一步探讨了产生差异的原因,它将为中国的专门用途英语在教学材料方面提供参考,以及在其实证性数据方面为中国英语研究提供启示。

This paper discusses the title length and the syntactic structure of the English master thesis titles in agriculture discipline. 800 titles are collected and classified into five subtypes. The results show that there exists difference in both title length and title structure and even in the sub-disciplines of agriculture between Chinese culture and American, which is explained subsequently. The conclusion will benefit both the English for specific purposes （ESP） in both pedagogical material and the Chinese English research based on the empirical data.
