As a representative work of the lost Generation, the body narrative in On the Road reflects the author' s rebellion against tra- ditional American culture, especially Protestant ethic. Protestant ethic approves of the righteousness of pursuing material wealth which provided the spiritual drive for the development of American capitalism. While the body narrative in On the Road implies the author's rebellion against and deconstruction of Protestant ethic, and in this process he kept discovering and perfecting himself, and finally settled his belief in Zen Buddism. This book did not only influence the value of the generation born after WWII, but also enriched and devel- oped American literary narrative.
